Overview
Targeted Content (EventPilot Pro add-on) provides you the ability to control access to native app tabs or to send notifications to specific user groups. This feature is only available with authentication setup where a user type is added to the user's profile upon login.
Usertypes would allow you to distinguish for example speakers from exhibitors from attendees or staff. One person can only have one user type.
If you would like to purchase targeted content for your app, please contact your Project Manager.
Examples
A speaker logs into the app. A special Speaker tab would become visible. This tab could have additional information about where the hospitality room is located, where to get tech set-up assistance, etc.
An exhibitor logs into the app and a special tab for exhibitors appears.
The attendee list tab may be limited to speakers, attendees, and staff but would be hidden from exhibitors to view.
Setting up available User Types
Contact your project manager to discuss the user types available with your authentication setup. For example, if you use Maritz authentication, user types come from the registration types. Custom development may be possible to assign custom usertypes; this must be discussed prior to kickoff to determine feasibility.
Limiting Tabs to Certain User Types
Note: if you are linking to a custom view where you don't want attendees to see that content, ensure to make the custom view itself unsearchable (uncheck or toggle off via the custom view editor). Otherwise, your attendees may find the custom view via the search.
- In the Conference App Builder > Design > Layout Tabs > App Tabs
- Click the filter icon in a tab

- Select the user type. You can select multiple user types for one tab. For example, you may have a tab to a custom view with specific information for your exhibitors but you would want your staff to also have access to that tab.

- Publish a data update
Test your change by logging into the app with a login having this user type.
Displaying Alerts to Specific User Types
Ensure you have fully tested alerts for specific user types before you announce the app to attendees. Once you have tested an alert, you can change the date and time to match the time during your event when it should appear.
- In the Conference App Builder > Design > Alerts
- Add a new alert or click on the pencil icon of an existing alert
- Click Advanced
- Select the user types this alert should be displayed to. You can select multiple user types.

Displaying Rotating Banners to Specific User Types
Similar to Alerts, select the Target User Types under the Advanced dropdown. You can select more than one target type.
FAQ
Can I hide certain sessions from some users?
All sessions in the program are visible to all users via the Program tab, Visual calendar view, and global search.
In order to control parts of the program, you can work with your project manager to set up app password at startup and use different home screens based on usertype. That way you can use pre filtered program lists that would exclude sessions. Remove the Global search and if needed speaker list in this case to keep access limited.
I don't want attendees to access my staff emergency procedure. How do I set that up?
In order to limit a particular page to one user type, you must have the targeted content module set up.
- Create a custom view (App Builder > Design > Custom View > Add View > Custom View Editor) and add your content
- Set the custom view to not be searchable by selecting the Info tab within the custom view editor and untoggling Custom View Searchable
- Navigate to Design > Tab Layouts > click the Plus button to add a new tab
- Enter the label
- Use the ActionBuilder to link to your new custom view that contains your staff procedure
- Select Action
- App Function
- Custom View
- choose your custom view
- Set an icon for your new tab
- Click the Filter icon in the tab row and choose the usertype that is allowed to see that custom view
Can I use targeted content if I use the EventPilot login methods (e.g. users create their own account)?
In order to use the targeted content module, the user's type must be known when they log in. If they create their own account, the user type cannot be known. Instead, your project manager can assist you in setting up an integration with your membership system or registration vendor to set up an authentication method where the user type would be known.
