Do you have tips to make my battery last longer?

During a conference, you may use an event app more than 100 times in only a few days. This is likely more usage than any other app you use on a daily basis in a very short period of time. So it may appear that the event app uses more power than your other apps - that's because of much higher usage.

Basic battery tips to help your device run all day

  • #1 Battery Drain is WiFi Antenna: Your device requires a lot of power to keep you connected, especially if signal strength is low. During sessions, switch to Airplane Mode. The EventPilot app still works so you can edit your schedule and take notes.
  • Screen Brightness: Your beautiful high resolution displays require a lot of power. Turn off auto brightness in the Settings app and manually dim the screen by dragging the slider on the brightness bar to the left (may be different on your operating system).
  • Turn off Screen: Change the setting on your device so it goes to sleep quicker and the screen doesn't stay on when it's not even needed. Or get into the habit of pressing the sleep/wake button on your device to quickly turn the screen off.
  • Bluetooth: If you don't need it, turn it off.
  • Cellular Data: If you don't need it, turn it off. The signal strength only shows for the non-data connection, so your phone may be using more power to find a strong data connection, especially if WiFi is poor.
  • Notifications: turn off notifications from apps where you don't need to be notified. Each time a notification is received, an area on the screen turns on and uses power. However, your event app sends you notifications for upcoming sessions, if you have received messages from other attendees, or important alerts from the organizer. So you may want to keep those on during the days of the event.
    • iOS: Settings > Notifications, on Android, you may need to also check the individual apps to control notifications.
  • If your battery is low, avoid using flash when taking pictures.
  • Calibrate your phone battery before the event. It helps your device to estimate battery life more accurately and alert you at the correct time that you are hitting the 20% mark.
