What should I ask my testers to test in my event app?

Testing your event app before launch

Before sharing your event app with attendees, take a walkthrough from an attendee’s perspective. Check that your content is accurate, navigation leads to the expected screens, and enabled features work as intended.

Use the checklist below as a starting point. Your app may not include every feature listed, and you may have additional features specific to your event.

Ensure to use supported devices and browsers:

Which device operating systems (OS versions), devices, and browsers are supported? (System Requirements)

Prepare for testing

  • Test with the latest published event content.
  • Use a regular attendee account to check the experience attendees will have.
  • Test on both, iOS and Android. Also test the mobile web version on a mobile device. Test the Planner on a desktop computer Chrome browser.
  • For networking tests, use two test accounts so you can check both sending and receiving messages.
  • If different attendee groups have different access (Targeted Content was set up), test with an account from each group.

Home screen and navigation

  • Tap every button, image link, and menu item on the home screen. Confirm each opens the expected content.
  • Tap each tab in the bottom navigation and check that it opens the expected view.
  • Open any additional navigation menus and try each option.
  • Check that labels and icons are clear and that text and images display correctly.
  • Follow links to websites, registration pages, or other external resources. Confirm they lead to the correct destination.

Program and sessions

  • Browse the program for each event day.
  • Open a selection of sessions across different session types and tracks.
  • Check session titles, dates, times, locations, descriptions, and linked speakers.
  • If sessions contain presentations or other nested content, open those items too.
  • Use search to find a few known sessions.
  • Open Filters.
    • Check that each filter is clearly labeled, contains the expected keywords or options, and returns appropriate results when selected.
  • Clear the filters and search to confirm you can return to the full list.
  • Open any session resources, such as handouts, websites, or videos.
  • If room locations link to maps, confirm they open the correct location pin drop.

Speakers

  • Browse the speaker list and search for a few known speakers.
  • Open several profiles and review names, credentials, organizations, photos, etc.
  • Check that linked sessions are correct and open as expected.
  • If speaker filters are available, check their labels, options, and results.
  • Test any website or other links included in speaker profiles.

Exhibitors and sponsors

  • Browse the exhibitor and sponsor lists.
  • Open several profiles and check names, logos, descriptions, booth numbers, and links.
  • Search for a known exhibitor or sponsor.
  • Open Filters, if available. Check the labels and options, then confirm the results match your selection.
  • If booth numbers link to a floor plan, check that they point to the correct booth location pin drop.
  • Review sponsor placement and branding in the areas where they should appear.

Personal schedule and saved items

  • Add a few sessions to your personal schedule, then open your schedule to confirm they appear.
  • Remove a session and confirm it is removed.
  • If favorites or bookmarks are available, save and remove a few items.
  • If notes are available, add a test note and reopen it to confirm it was saved.

Attendees and networking

If networking is enabled:

  • Open the attendee directory and browse or search for another test attendee.
  • Review your own profile and try editing the fields attendees are allowed to change.
    • Note: keep in mind the profile edits will become visible after a data publish
  • Open another test attendee’s profile and send a message.
  • Confirm the other account receives the message and can reply.

Use test accounts or colleagues who know you are testing to avoid sending unexpected messages to attendees.

Maps and event information

  • Open each map or floor plan and check that it is legible when zoomed in. If not, work with the graphic designer to update the map image.
  • Test any interactive room or booth locations.
  • Review practical information such as venue details, transportation, Wi-Fi instructions, help contacts, and event policies.
  • Open linked documents and websites.
  • Check that event organizer contact details and links are current.

Interactive and optional features

Test the features included in your event, such as:

  • Surveys and evaluations:Open the form, review the questions, and submit a test response.
    • Note: surveys become available 3min before session end. In order to test, set up a session that ended this morning for testing (and publish) and delete that session after testing (and publish).
  • Live polling or Q&A: Join a test session and try submitting a response or question.
  • Notifications: Coordinate a test a scheduled notification with your event team and confirm it appears. Check its destination if it includes a link.
  • AI Assistant: Ask common attendee questions, such as how to find a session or locate event information. Check that answers match your published content and that any linked items open correctly.

Coordinate tests like scheduled notifications or testing surveys in advance, not when the app is already live.

Login and access

If your event uses attendee login or restricted content:

  • Follow the sign-in instructions exactly as an attendee would.
  • Confirm a valid attendee can access the appropriate content.
  • Check sign-out and sign-in again.
  • Test the account recovery process, if available.
  • Targeted Content: Confirm that restricted content is available only to the intended attendee groups.

Complete one attendee walkthrough

Finish by testing a short, realistic journey:

  1. Open the app and sign in, if required.
  2. Find a session using search or filters.
  3. Review its details and speaker.
  4. Add it to your personal schedule.
  5. Find its room on the map.
  6. Locate an exhibitor and open its profile.
  7. Find another test attendee and exchange a message, if networking is enabled.

This helps you check how the features work together during a typical attendee experience.

Report and recheck issues

For anything that needs attention, record:

  • The device model and operating system version, or browser used.
  • The session, speaker, exhibitor, or screen involved.
  • The steps you followed.
  • What you expected and what happened instead.
  • A screenshot or short screen recording, where helpful.

After corrections are published, repeat the affected steps to confirm the issue is resolved.
